Ringtone Conversion

As the name implies, ringtone conversion is a process of ringtone transformation from one format to another with certain format-related
modifications.
Monophonic to monophonic Possible. Certain information like vibration and lights may be lost if the target format doesn't support it. Some monophonic formats don't support a wide range of scales.
Monophonic to polyphonic Possible. The resulting file will be a polyphonic file with one track. Vibration and lights information may be lost.
Monophonic to mixed Possible. The same as monophonic to polyphonic.
Monophonic to PCM (or truetone) Possible. The software synthesis will be required. At the moment, there are no universal sound banks imitating the sound of the phone beeper.
Polyphonic to monophonic Possible. All music information in excess of 1 channel will be dropped and advanced tempo and effect instructions will be lost. Proper reduction of polyphony is a very complicated task. Ringtone Creator (and Convert-Ringtones) is able to solve it fast using the multipass polyphony reduction algorithm developed by Unwiredtec.
Polyphonic to polyphonic Possible. Polyphony level may be reduced (for example, when converting from a 20-channel MIDI file into a 16-channel SMAF MA2 file) and certain information like vibration and lights may be dropped.
Polyphonic to mixed Possible. The same as conversion from polyphonic to polyphonic
Polyphonic to PCM Possible. Requires software synthesis
Mixed to monophonic Possible / Impossible. The same as polyphonic to monophonic, but also PCM samples will be dropped. If the mixed ringtone consists only of PCM samples, conversion is impossible
Mixed to polyphonic Possible / Impossible. The same as polyphonic to polyphonic, but also PCM samples will be dropped. If the mixed ringtone consists only of PCM samples, conversion is impossible.
Mixed to mixed Possible. If the polyphony of the target format is less than the polyphony of the source format, certain information may be lost. Different mixed formats use different sound compression schemes and the PCM sample quality may deteriorate
Mixed to PCM Possible. If the mixed ringtone contains note information, the sound synthesis will be required.
PCM to monophonic, polyphonic Impossible. The task of music recognition is much harder than speech recognition. Basically, it's the same as teaching a computer to match the text narrated in American English with the same text narrated in Chinese by a German-speaking person. There are lots of people browsing the internet for the software which allows to convert files from AAC or MP3 into SP-MIDI or other note-based formats. This is just impossible.
PCM to mixed Possible. The resulting file will consist of one large PCM sample. The size of the mixed file will be large and the quality of the PCM sample will be worse than the original file.
PCM to PCM Possible. Certain quality deterioration may happen because of recompression of audio.
